I’ve been teaching Pilates since 2005 and ran a thriving studio in my Encinitas home for eight years. Fitness training is a second career for me. I came to it in my early 50s, with a master’s degree and several decades as a journalist under my belt. I completed a certificate at UCSD in fitness and exercise science, became a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise, and subsequently trained as a Pilates instructor. In 2014 I became certified to teach Equestrian Pilates®.
But before all that …. I was born in Scotland in 1953. Did my undergraduate degree in London and moved to New Mexico (whoa, culture shock!) in 1981 to pursue a master’s degree in art history. Met my husband in Albuquerque and we moved to the San Diego area in 1990. When my husband retired from his position as a UCSD physician and professor of medicine in 2013, we bought a horse ranch in Fallbrook. EquiPoise Pilates and Age Well Fitness were born.
